Brisbane Powerhouse
Nestled amongst the banks of the Brisbane River, the Brisbane Powerhouse is an arts and cultural hub located in a former power station in New Farm only a short distance from the Hotel Grand Chancellor Brisbane.
The Brisbane Powerhouse is considered a contemporary multi-arts, dining, and conference venue, home to an array of performing arts, visual arts, festivals, and community events. Originally built to meet the growing demand of the Brisbane Tram network back in 1927, The Powerhouse was later decommissioned in 1971 before being renovated in the early 2000s and reopened as a modern entertainment hub.
Today the Powerhouse is a multi-purpose centre for the arts, housing over 700 patrons across its two theatres, a hall, outdoor plaza, green spaces, rooftop terrace, bar and restaurant, and the weekend farmer markets.
The actual theatres are often transformed into different setups that provide more seating or performing space as required. The venue continues to develop projects in all areas as well as providing workshops for children and the greater community. The Powerhouse also hosts multiple functions, including weddings, corporate meetings, and special events.
